Coal Imports in China Grow on Domestic Production Cuts

The latest coal import data in China shows that imports rose by 8.2% to 108 MnT during the Jan-Jun’16 period in comparison with the same period of the last year.

The rise in imports could be attributed to reduction in domestic supply on account of coal production cuts in China to curtail industrial over-capacity.

China’s coal output will shrink by 280 MnT this year as a consequence of production cuts.
