NALCO’s Aluminium Business Shines with Record FY25 Results

India: NALCO’s aluminium business shines with record FY25 results

  • NALCO’s profit after tax rises by 158% y-o-y
  • EBITDA surges amid firm domestic demand

National Aluminium Company Ltd. (NALCO), a leading Navratna public sector unit (PSU), recorded strong performance in FY’25, driven primarily by its aluminium business. The company produced around 460,000 tonnes (t) of aluminium metal during the year, recording a slight 0.6% drop y-o-y while maintaining near-full capacity utilisation. Meanwhile, domestic sales of the same increased by 8% y-o-y to 454,000 t from 419,000 t in FY’24.

The aluminium segment benefited from firm domestic demand, better realisations, and cost-efficient operations. NALCO’s net sales for FY’25 totalled INR 16,662 crore, up 27% from the previous fiscal, with the aluminium division contributing significantly. The company’s profit after tax (PAT) more than doubled to INR 5,325 crore, and EBITDA jumped 154% y-o-y to INR 7,922 crore, showcasing operational excellence and market strength.

In Q4FY’25 alone, aluminium metal production stood at 118,000 t, while domestic sales touched 126,000 t – the highest-ever quarterly sales volume. The company strategically focused on the domestic market amid global uncertainties, avoiding export dependence and enhancing margins.

NALCO is also investing in future aluminium capacity, with a planned 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) smelter and a 1 MTPA fifth-stream alumina refinery, both expected to be commissioned by FY’26-30. Its integrated operations – from bauxite mining to power generation – provide strong cost competitiveness.

NALCO’s aluminium business stands out not only for its financial performance but also for its responsible operations, with zero debt, expanding green energy capacity (198 MW wind power), and strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) frameworks.
