Coking Coal Import Offers Mildly Up on Strong Demand

Coking coal import offers have undergone mild increments due to prevalence of strong demand in the key export market.

The Australian Coking coal market saw strong demand recently due to vigorous purchases by Chinese steel makers, among other buyers.

The latest import offers of the Premium HCC were assessed slightly higher at USD 94.50/MT FoB Australia; and that of the HCC 64 Mid Vol were also assessed slightly higher at USD 87.15/MT FoB Australia.

On CFR India basis, these import offers amount to: USD 103.05/MT and USD 95.70/MT respectively.

Demand for the coal variant is expected to rise significantly in the future as steel production will increase due to the Indian government implementing a slew of measures to boost infrastructure investment in the country.

IMPORTS

In Jun’16, 4.35 MnT of Coking coal was imported into the country, data compiled by SteelMint Research shows. The volume is 2.7% higher than in the previous month, SteelMint Research data also shows.
