Indian Scrap Imports up by 33.8% Y-o-Y in 2011

It is reported that
scrap imports to India surged by 33.8 percent Y-o-Y, amounting to 6.257 million
MT of scrap in 2011.

UK claimed the first
spot for exporting scrap to India with 0.95 million MT, up by 4.4% from the
same period in 2010. US exporters remained the second largest exporters with 0.942
million MT i.e. up by 14.6% Y-o-Y.

Further, United Arab
Emirates (UAE) was the third largest scrap exporter to the country (India) with
0.86 million MT of scrap, increasing sharply by 34% comparatively from a year
ago.

In addition, It is reported that
India imports scrap from over 150 countries. Due to country's special
geographical location and intensive medium-and-small sized steel
mills, it is easy and feasible to export the material to the country.
