China: Spot iron ore prices increase by $1/t d-o-d with slow market amid Labour day holidays

Iron ore fines (Fe 62%) spot prices inched by $1.25/t to $98.15/t CFR China on 5 May’25. The price uptick is attributed to a recovery in market momentum following the Labour Day holidays, however, trading activity was slowed with mills purchasing on need basis. According to reports, the market fundamentals remain robust, with steel mills opting for more economical sourcing strategies, focusing on medium and low-grade fines.
