Nepal’s rebar offers remained stable w-o-w, hovering at around NPR 89,000/t ($654/t) for cash guarantees and NPR 91,000/t ($669/t) for bank guarantees on payment. The stable prices can be attributed to sluggish domestic demand. However, concerns are rising due to power outages, which may impact production in the near future.
Imported WRC offers rise w-o-w
Offers for EAF/IF-route wire rod coils (WRCs) imported from India rose by $5/t w-o-w to $560/t exw-Durgapur as compared to $555/t a week ago. Moreover, offers for WRC from the BF-based steel producers increased by $10/t w-o-w to $600/t exw. However, no deals have been heard concluded.
Steel imports drop m-o-m in Mar
Nepal’s finished flat steel imports dropped by 1,784 tonnes (t) m-o-m to 41,028 t in March 2025 against 42,812 t in February. Furthermore, on a y-o-y basis, the same edged down by 949 t from 41,977 t in March 2024.
Semi-finished steel imports into Nepal declined by 9,431 t m-o-m to 18,878 t in March 2025 as compared to 28,309 t in February. However, the same edged up by 3,918 t y-o-y as against 14,960 t in March 2024.
Imports of finished long steel into Nepal decreased by 1,830 t m-o-m to 15,322 t in March 2025, from 17,152 t in February 2025. Moreover, on a y-o-y basis, imports dropped by 2,408 t against 17,730 t in March 2024.
