14 Mining Leases Extended in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has extended the validity of 14 cases of mining lease for to the extent of 50 years from the original lease date.  The list includes iron ore, chromite, bauxite, manganese and dolomite blocks.

The inter departmental Committee (IDC) headed by the development commissioner Mr. R.Balakrishnan had recommended lease renewal of 16 mines. While the state government has cleared 14 leases, the decision on 2 RML (renewal of mining lease) cases are yet to be taken.   

Earlier, the steel and mines department has recommended these RML cases to the IDC. The High Powered Committee after detailed examination 14 proposals are found suitable for recommendation for extension of validity looking at their past record and information provided in the checklist.
 
These extension for 50 years are being given under Section 8A(6) of MMDR Amendment Act 2015.
 
Some of the  RML cases cleared are given below-

1. M G Mohanty iron and manganese lease of 19.425 Hectare in Patabeda, Sundargarh, which has been recommended for extension of validity period of lease till 02.04.2036 being date of completion of 50 years from the original lease i.e. 03.04.1986.
 
2. Penguin Trading And Agencies, iron mining lease of 49.372 Hectare in Raikela, Sundargarh was eligible for extension and has been also favored till 02.12.2036 being the date of completion of 50 years from original lease on 03.12.1986.
 
3. Essel Mining, iron mining lease over 90.143 Hectares in Koira, Sundargarh has been recommended extension up to 26.08.2021 being completion of 50 years from the date of original lease on 27.08.1971.
 
4. FACOR chromite mining lease over 72.581 Hectare in Gurjangpur, Jajpur has been favored for extension of lease up to 12.08.2035 being date of completion of 50 years being date of original lease was 13.08.1985.
 
5. National Enterprises iron ore mining lease over 45.932 Hectares in Raikela, Sundargarh was recommended for extension of validity period of lease up to 20.12.2033 as original lease was made on 21.12.1983.
 
6. Prabodh Mohanty iron, manganese and bauxite mining lease over 188.523 Hectares in Jaldihi, Sundargarh will be eligible for extension of validity period up to 19.01.2037 being date of completion of 50 years from the original date of lease on 20.01.1987.
 
7. Korps Resources iron mining lease over 72.581 Hectares in Tantra and Koira, Sundargarh has been favored with extension up to 21.11.2035 being date of completion of 50 years from the date of original lease on 22.11.1985.
 
8. Lal Traders iron mining lease over 119.63 Hectares in Badampahar, Mayurbhanj and validity of extension has been given till 26.05.2020 being date of completion of 50 years from the original lease i.e. 27.05.1970.
 
9. S N Mohanty iron and manganese mining lease over 8.133 hectares has been favored for extension of validity till 06.01.2037 as 50 years will be completed by that time as original lease was made on 07.01.1987.
 
10. Jindal Steel & Power Limited iron mining lease over 297.8 Hectares in Raikela, Sundargarh has been allowed extension of validity up to 24.05.2035 being date of completion of 50 years from original lease date i.e.25.05.1985.
 
11. Rungta Sons iron and bauxite mining lease over 147.1 Hectares in Sanindupur, Sundargarh has been favored with extension of 50 years till 05.09.2035. Original lease was made on 06.09.1985.
 
12. Rungta Sons iron ore mining lease over 82.961 Hectares in Oraghat, Sundargarh is also allowed extension of validity period up to 09.12.2032 being date of completion of 50 years from the date of original lease i.e. 10.12.1982.
 
So far the state government has cleared total 60 mining lease renewal cases.
