Indian pellet exports witnessed a twofold increase in June’16. Pellet exports were registered at 499, 600 MT in June’16, which was at 226,350 MT in the month of May’16.
Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL), Odisha-based pellet maker-BRPL and Essar Steel has actively exported Indian pellets to China in the month of June’16.
Indian pellet exporters are receiving inquiries regarding pellet exports. Favorable global market conditions, as well as a sudden surge in iron ore prices, are making pellet exports viable to China. With the increase in demand for Indian pellets in China, Indian pellet exporters are focusing on pellet exports.
JSPL- the largest pellet exporter in FY17
Apparently, JSPL exported around 448,600 MT pellets in the first 3 months of FY17. Out of the total, 339,900 MT pellets were exported to China and 108,700 MT to Oman. JSPL, exports pellets to its own sponge iron plant in Oman of capacity 1.5 MnT pa named Jindal Shadeed Iron & Steel LLC.
Alongside, BRPL also exported 272,850 MT pellets to China in first three m months of FY17 and turned out to be second largest pellet exporter from India.
Essar Steel resumes pellet exports to China in June’16
After a long gap of 8 months, Essar Steel resumes pellets exports from the month of June’16.
Since, Essar Steel exports all of its material from its plants located near major ports, namely Paradip and Vizag. The transportation cost from these plants to ports remains less as it is mainly done via conveyor belts.
