Indian Chrome Ore Production Decreased by 6.5% in May’16

Production of chrome ore and chrome concentrates decreased by 6.5% in May’16 in comparison to Apr’16.

Odisha contributes to around 98% of the total chrome ore produced in India. Chrome ore production in Odisha decreased by over 6.5% and stood at 298,931 MT in May’16. In Apr’16, chrome ore production was recorded at 319,952 MT.

Captive miners in May’16 have decreased production by 15.4 % M-o-M, with IDCOL completely stopping their production. Production of chrome ore by merchant miners in May’16 has almost remained unchanged. Tata Steel chrome ore production has increased by 16.5% while O.M.C has reduced production by 45.3% in May’16.
