Japan: Orders for ordinary steel decline m-o-m in Jan’25

Japan’s orders for ordinary steel in Jan’25 stood at 4.955 mnt, down by 24,000 t m-o-m from Dec’24, marking the first decline in two months, as per the Japan Iron and Steel Federation. Steel inventories, which peaked in Sept’24 due to typhoons, have been gradually declining. In contrast, for the same time period export inventories rose significantly, by 210,000 t, to 1.287 mnt.
