Coal India Limited (CIL), which had put 1.13 MnT of coal for auctioning on the third day to the sponge iron sector, had received better response on the day in comparison with the first and second days.
The company had managed to sell 1.04 MnT (or 92%) of the total offered quantity for the day.
The auction has so far received low interest from the participating sponge iron sector. During the first three days of the auction, 2.92 MnT was on the offer, but only 1.64 MnT found buyers. CIL officials attributed the low interest to the slowdown in the steel industry and competition from China.
The auction will continue till 16 Jun’16, and thereafter, CIL will offer coal linkages to the other non-regulated sectors, such as cement, metals and others. A total quantity of 23.75 MnT is allocated for the auction during the current fiscal.
