The steel maker procured 13 rakes of iron ore from Odisha merchant mines in May’16.
Usha Martin, a Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) based steel maker is seen sourcing iron ore from Odisha based merchant mines. The steel maker has steel making capacity of 1 MnT pa and is primarily engaged in manufacturing of billet and bloom apart from rolling mill facilities of wire rod and rebar.
Usha Martin usually sources iron ore from its captive mines in Jharkhand which produces nearly 2.5 MnT iron ore annually. But owing to some temporary issues at its captive mines, the steel making company is seen procuring iron ore from Odisha based merchant mines.
“Owing to some temporary issues at our Jharkhand captive mines, we have started sourcing iron ore from Odisha. We have procured nearly 50,000 MT lump to feed our blast furnace in May’16. Sourcing from Odisha is likely to continue for a more month and we have plans to source 10-15 rakes in Jun’16. However the issue has been partly resolved and we will resume iron ore sourcing from our captive mines shortly”, shared a source from the company.
As per railway movement data maintained with SteelMint, Usha Martin procured 13 rakes of iron ore last month i.e. May’16. KJS Ahluwalia supplied 8 rakes and Kaypee Enterprises supplied 5 rakes in May’16.
In Jun’16 (till 10 Jun’16) Usha Martin has sourced 5 rakes from Odisha based trader – Kalinga Enterprises.
