Coal linkage auctions are likely to be conducted for the Indian power sector too; if a recent decision mooted by the Coal Ministry eventually gains cabinet approval.
The ministry has decided approaching the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for seeking approval for auctioning coal linkages to the power sector. The ministry is in the final stages of preparing the cabinet note on the decision and subsequently the cabinet will be approached to gain the requisite approval, the coal and power minister told the media recently.
The cabinet has already approved auctions of coal linkages to the non-regulated sector. The state-run miner, Coal India Limited, has allocated 23.25 MnT for coal linkage auction.
