Pig iron exports from India fell by 87% during Jan’16- May’16, as compared to same period last year.
Pig iron exports were recorded at mere 31,500 MT during first five months of 2016, which was recorded at 250,500 MT during last year same period.
SteelMint learned that export are down on backdrop of lower prices in global market, which was a result of cheaper billet from China and CIS nations. Last few tenders from SAIL, MMTC, NINL have failed to receive response. There is an active tender of 15,000 MT by MMTC expiring on 8th June 2016.
Some buying interest for small quantities is seen from Bangladesh based buyers. A small parcel of 5,000 MT Pig iron was shipped to Bangladesh from India’s east coast at an average price of USD 270/MT FOB in early May’16.
