India: CIL records 2% y-o-y growth in coal production, offtake in Apr-Jan’25

Coal India Limited (CIL), the world’s largest coal producer and a Maharatna company, has shared its provisional production and offtake performance data for January 2025.

Cumulative coal production in April-January 2025 reached 621 million tonnes (mnt), reflecting a modest 1.8% y-o-y growth. This steady increase in production underscores CIL’s continued efforts to meet the growing demand for coal. During the same period, the company achieved a total coal offtake of 630.2 mnt, marking a slight 1.8% y-o-y rise, indicating consistent stability in coal supply.

In January 2025 specifically, CIL’s coal production stood at 77.8 mnt, showing a slight 1.8% y-o-y decrease. However, coal dispatches for the month amounted to 68.6 mnt, representing a 2.2% y-o-y increase.

Looking ahead, CIL has set an ambitious production target of 838 mnt for FY’25 to address increasing demand and ensure a dependable coal supply.
