Budget FY’26: BCD on Import of copper scrap in India set to zero

The Centre has removed the 2.5% concessional basic custom duty on copper scrap imports, a move that will potentially boost the prospects of domestic units, in the Budget FY’26 announcement today. The country imported 0.32 mnt of copper scrap in CY 2024 as compared to 0.31 mnt in CY 2023. Earlier budgets had lowered the import duty from 5% to 2.5%.
