Anthracite Coal Import Offers Sink by USD 2/MT; Indian Market Remains Grim

The Anthracite coal market in India continues to be dull, with a bleak outlook.

MARKET TREND

Recently, import offers have gone down by around USD 2/MT, but Indian buyers seem to be least concerned about fluctuations in import offers, given the lackluster market atmosphere prevailing.

According to a reputed importer, import offers from Russia have recently gone down to around USD 94/MT CFR India.

Availability of cheaper alternate fuels, like Petcoke and other forms of coal has eroded demand for the relatively high-priced Anthracite coal.

IMPORTS

During May’16, only 50,000 MT of Anthracite coal was imported into India, according to SteelMint Research. Out of the total quantity, JSW Steel imported 7,000 MT, and the rest by Tata Steel.

In Apr’16, the imports were higher at 71,000 MT, data available with SteelMint Research shows.
