India: CIL’s production, offtake each see 2% y-o-y increase in Apr-Dec’24

Coal India Limited (CIL), the world’s largest coal producer and a Maharatna company, has released its provisional production and offtake performance data for December 2024.

The data reveals that CIL’s cumulative coal production in April-December 2024 touched 543 million tonnes (mnt), marking a modest 2.3% y-o-y growth. This indicates a steady increase in production, reflecting CIL’s consistent performance and its efforts to meet rising coal demand.

During the same period, CIL’s cumulative coal offtake totalled 561.2 mnt, representing a slight 1.6% y-o-y increase. This growth highlights the stability of CIL’s coal supply.

Dec’24 highlights

In December 2024, CIL reported coal production of 72.4 mnt, reflecting a minor y-o-y increase of 0.7%.

CIL dispatched 68.6 mnt of coal in December 2024, reflecting a 2.45% increase y-o-y.

Notably, CIL has set a production target of 838 mnt for FY’25, to address rising demand and maintain a reliable supply.
