Indian Ferrous Scrap Import Remains Stable during April

Ferrous scrap import to India during April remained stable, with a slight fall of 3.5% M-o-M.

India’s ferrous scrap import totaled about 639,000 MT during Apr’16 against 662,000 MT in Mar’16. Continuous arrival of 5-6 bulk vessels during the month has resulted to decent import in April.

Of the total scrap imported to India in April, highest number of exports were made by UK exporters, accounting 166,400 MT, followed by the USA and UAE with 91,500 MT and 76,200 MT respectively. In the meantime, Singapore and Japan’s supply volume topped to 39,400 MT and 3,900 MT respectively.

Chennai Port was the highest scrap importer with 174,500 MT , followed by Ludhiana ICD at 118,000 MT and JNPT at 100,200 MT in the same duration.

India imported 6.18 MnT, (+ 12.4%) during Apr-Mar’16 (FY16) against 5.5 MnT in the same period last fiscal.
