Karnataka Iron Ore Production Touches 25 MnT in FY16

Karnataka India’s 3rd largest iron ore producing state has observed an yearly increase of 14% in iron ore production in last fiscal. In FY16, Karnataka’s iron ore production increased to 25 MnT against 22 MnT in FY15.

NMDC produced 11.7 MnT iron ore from its Donimalai and Kumaraswamy mines. State controlled miner-Mysore Minerals produced around 4 MnT. Remaining quantity (around 9 MnT) was produced by the private miners. Among the private miners, Sesa Sterlite recorded largest production at 2.3 MnT followed by MSPL Vyasankere iron ore mines (1.2 MnT) and SMIORE (0.7 MnT).

As per the laid annual iron ore production target, state achieved nearly the same production in last fiscal.

Karnataka iron ore production likely to cross 28 MnT in FY17: In Mar’16, CEC approved increase in permissible annual production in the ten mining leases in Karnataka which will augment state’s annual iron ore production by 3.78 MnT to 28.5 MnT in FY17.
