Odisha Government owes Thousand Crores to the Miners

Bhubaneswar: While the Odisha government demands crores of rupees from the miners for excess production of minerals, the miners have also demanded refund of their money they have paid as advance royalty.

According to sources the state government owes thousand crores of rupees to the miners, the later had paid as advance royalty for grant of Deemed extension. Now, that the market situation has turned sluggish the miners have demanded the money back.


2 years back the state government had collected thousands of crores of rupees from as many as 57 miners for grant of deemed extension. However, later it had been detected that the collected amount was more than the actual amount of royalty and the excess amount would be around one thousand crore.  That time the government had assured that the excess amount would be refunded to the 57 miners. But the miners have claimed that no refund has been paid so far.  


As per the new regulation, since 2011 the state is permitting mining operation only after collecting advance royalty from the miners. The advanced royalty is being calculated as per the expected amount of minerals to be raised, the grade and the price of the grade fixed by the IBM as submitted by the miner in its mining plan.
