GPIL Commences Commercial Iron Ore Operation at Chhattisgarh Mines

Integrated steel maker-Godawari Power & Ispat (GPIL) has announced that it has commenced commercial iron ore operations at its merged Ari Dongra mines in Chhattisgarh.

Hence after this the iron ore mining capacity of the steel maker will be doubled from 0.7 MnT pa to 1.4 MnT pa. And its mining area will increase from previous 106.60 ha to 138.96 ha.

GPIL operates a a 1.8 MnT pa iron pellet plant in Raipur (Chhattisgarh), which is utilized both for captive as well as merchant sales. Apart from this, the company also has steel melting shop for manufacturing billets out of the pellet based sponge iron and a wire drawing unit.

GPIL produced 0.4 MnT iron ore from its captive mine (Ari Dongri) in FY15. The company used to fulfill its remaining iron ore requirement by sourcing iron ore majorly from Odisha merchant miners and NMDC Chhattisgarh. Post commencement of commercial mining operations company’s sourcing from merchant market will reduce considerably.

On Feb’15, GPIL received consent from govt. of India for doubling its iron ore mining capacity to 1.4 MnT pa.
