SAIL Seeks Conversion Agent for Rebar in Durgapur

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is the India’s largest steelmaker and produces a variety of steel and iron products including Pig iron, flat and long products and special steels at its plants spread over India.

The company has invited a tender for appointment of a wet leasing conversion agent from bonafide, resourceful firm/company for conversion of semi finished into rebar in and around Durgapur, West Bengal. The tender will be kept valid for 90 days from the date of technical bid opening.

The successful bidder will be appointed as the Wet Leasing Agent (WLA) initially for a period of 3 years, extendable by up to 2 years solely at the discretion of SAIL subject to satisfactory performance.

The finished product after conversion should be 8-25 mm TMT bar Fe-500-D including TMT bar in other sizes / grades, like Fe-600-roof bolt, HRC, etc., as optional items. This conversion should be from billet 90-125 mm and/or bloom 150×150 mm subject to capability of WLA.

Eligibility criteria

1. Bidder should have a valid Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) license for Fe-500 and Fe-500-D grades of TMT bars at the time of application and mill should be in running condition with the capability to roll TMT bar 8-25 mm in IS:1786 Fe 500-D grade from billet 125×125 mm

2. Relevant ISO-9000 certification for manufacturing is mandatory. For TMT section WLA should posses technology and license from Turboquench, Thermax or other similar system provider, for conversion of minimum 48,000 MT of TMT bar per year

3. For TMT, following size mix is required:
i) 8-10 mm – 10 %
ii) 12-16 mm – 85 %
iii) 20-25 mm – 5 %
