Mexico Imposes Provisional Anti-Dumping Duty on Indian Silico Manganese

Mexico’s economy ministry has imposed provisional anti-dumping duty on imports of silico manganese from India. Provisional duty has been set at 43.17%.

Mexico has concluded a preliminary anti-dumping investigation concerning imports of silico manganese from India. Following the investigation, the Secretariat of Economy determined that there is enough evidence that Indian companies sold silico manganese in Mexico at prices below Indian market value.

The probe was launched on September 7, 2015 following a request by Mexican ferro producer Minera Autlán, which claimed the imports were harming national production. It covered imports from India during the period April 1, 2012, to March 31, 2015.

The ministry agreed with the arguments from Minera Autlán that the product was imported at dumping prices in the period of the investigation, and constituted a threat to national producers. The Secretariat has decided to impose a provisional anti-dumping duty of 43.17 % on imports of silico manganese from India and pledged to prevent further damage to Mexico’s steel sector, with companies such as Ahmsa previously cutting production and jobs as a result of Chinese dumping.
