The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board issued closure notices on 3 Sep’24 to around six ferro silicon and steel units in Byrnihat for violating environmental norms. These plants are required to remain closed until they achieve full compliance with the board’s environmental regulations. Meanwhile, sources said that the issue might be resolved within a week or less.
