While HRC imports fell in Feb’16 against Jan’16, CRC and plates import increased significantly during the same period.
India’s total HRC/Plates import under HS code 7208 registered a fall of 41% from 0.34 MnT in Jan’16 to 0.20 MnT in Feb’16.
While India’s CRC import under HS code 7209 increased by 5% from 0.17 MnT in Jan’16 to 0.18 MnT in Feb’16.
India imported about 50,436 tonnes of HRC (down by 19% M-o-M), 42,956 tonnes of CRC (up by 157% M-o-M) and 30,630 tonnes of Plates (which was 2,886 MT in Jan’16) at Kandla & Mundra port in Feb’16.
Highest HRC importer in Feb’16 was Jindal Saw Limited which imported 17,990 tonnes of HRC (under HS code 7208690 and 72083790) from Korea.
CRC’s highest importer was India Steel Corporation which imported 21,652 tonnes (under HS code 72091730 and 72091830) from China while highest plate importer was Jindal Saw Ltd with imports of 17,672 tonnes (under HS code 72085110) from Korea and Austria.
As it usually takes about two months time for import shipments to reach India, LCs for these deliveries must have opened before 5 Feb’16 (MIP announcement). The impact of MIP on steel imports can be seen only in the import numbers of April month and thereafter.
