India: Government of Goa invites bids for auction of iron ore mining leases

The Directorate of Mines & Geology, Government of Goa, has announced the initiation of an electronic auction for the grant of mining leases for three iron ore mineral blocks in the state. This move comes under the powers conferred by Section 10 (B) of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, and follows the guidelines set by the Mineral (Auction) Rules, 2015.

The three identified mineral blocks available for auction include the Onda Mineral Block-X located in North Goa and the Curpem and Sulcorna Mineral Block-XI and Codli Mineral Block-XII, both situated in South Goa. The government has set the price of the tender document for each block at INR 5,00,000, exclusive of GST, which is payable under the Reverse Charge Mechanism. So far, the Goa government has successfully auctioned nine iron ore blocks since 2015.

The last date for purchasing the tender document is 24 September, 2024, with bid submissions closing on 4 October, 2024, by 17:00 IST.

This electronic auction is part of Goa’s ongoing efforts to manage and regulate its mineral resources effectively, ensuring transparency and encouraging participation from eligible mining entities.
