As per the railway movement tracked by SteelMint, pellet movement through railways increases by 23.5% in Feb’16 as compared to Jan’16. Total,161,700 MT pellets were moved via 42 rakes in Feb’16 as compared to 130,900 MT pellets via 34 rakes in Jan’16.
Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (JSPL), a merchant supplier of pellet, supplied 77,000 MT pellets via 20 rakes in Feb’16 as compared to 57,750 MT pellets via 15 rakes in Jan’16. JSPL posses pellet plant with capacity of 9 MnT pa at Barbil, Odisha.
Brahmani River Pellets Ltd (BRPL), having installed capacity of 4 MnT pa, supplied 17 rakes i.e. 65,450 MT pellets in merchant market in Feb’16. However, The pellet maker supplied 46,200 MT pellets via 12 rakes in Jan’16.
Arya Iron and Steel Ltd, another major supplier, supplied only 19,250 MT via 5 rakes in Feb’16 as compared to 26,950 MT via 7 rakes in Jan’16.
Despite increase in pellet movement in Feb’16, overall pellet buying was weak as sponge manufacturers showed limited buying interest. However, currently pellet prices at Barbil reached to a level of INR 3,000-3,100/MT (loaded into wagons).
