During FY16 (Apr-Dec’15), India has exported about 0.38 MnT of billet/bloom to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal including others. However in the same period of FY15, the country had exported about 0.48 MnT of material. Out of the total, major quantity has been exported to Bangladesh in FY16.
As per data available with SteelMint, about 0.22 MnT of billet/bloom has been exported to Bangladesh during Apr-Nov’15; registering a rise of 30% against 0.17 MnT during the same duration of FY15.
Indian billet export has fallen drastically by 20-21% during this fiscal. The prime causes of fall in India’s export were availability of low-priced billet from China and weak global market sentiments.
Currently, China is offering 150*150 square billet at USD 240/MT FoB, which is USD 20-30/MT cheaper than Indian billet export offers at USD 260-270/MT. Bangladesh prefers Indian billet over Chinese due to low import duty, high quality and low transit time.
