Ship-breaking melting scrap prices in Gujarat’s Alang increased INR 700/t ($8/t) d-o-d on 21 Jun’24. HMS (80:20) prices were assessed at INR 38,000/t ($455/t) exy. There is a significant shortage of scrap in the market, imports are currently not viable, and only around 20-25 ships are beached in Alang for dismantling. Supply constraints and bid-offer disparity rule offering suppliers an opportunity to raise offers.
