India Imports 19.4 MnT Coal in Jan’16

Since the beginning of 2016, India’s monthly coal import had registered a fall of mere 1% to 19.4 MnT in Jan’16.

India, one of the major dry fuel consumers across the globe, has witnessed a stability in Jan’16 coal imports. The country’s import registered a negligible fall of 1% during the month, after recorded 14.7% hike in Dec’15. The country has imported about 19.4 MnT at the end of the month.

Stability in India’s current coal import is due to the mixed sentiments prevailing in domestic market. Coal availability has increased by CIL, but low grade domestic coal seems less favouring to control imports. Moreover, steady demand and depreciating INR against USD is restricting buyers for more bookings.
