TS Alloys May Not Resume Production before March-End

Bhubaneswar: Production at Tata steel owned ferro alloys plant ‘TS Alloys’, located at Athagarh in Cuttack district of Odisha, is likely to be affected till March this year. The plant has been closed, after a fire accident at its Power Transformer in early January. Contrary to local media reports, the fire actually broke out in the electric transformer and not in the furnace of the Plant.

According to sources, the plant may not be able to resume production before March. The plant produces about 50,000 MT of ferro-chrome per annum, which implies that the plant will lose production of about 12,000-13,000 MT in these three months. Last year, the plant was closed for several months due raw material scarcity after the company’s Sukinda chrome mines was closed following expiry of statutory clearances.
