Primary and Secondary Rebar Producers’ Prices Similar in North and West India

Price gap between primary and secondary producers has narrowed down to zero in north and west India.

Presently, primary and secondary rebar producers are more or less operating at the same levels. Earlier, the price gap between them was used to be within INR 2,000-3,000/MT, which has now become almost nil.

Viewing no price gap, traders and stockist prefer to incline towards primary producers’ products over secondary one.

Currently, few primary manufacturers are offering rebar in Mumbai at around INR 30,500/MT (excise duty included, VAT/CST extra) for 12-32 mm size in retail segment. Meanwhile, secondary producers are also offering at INR 30,300-30,500/MT for the same size material.

Similarly, few large rebar producers in Punjab region are offering at around INR 32,100/MT (excise duty included, VAT/CST extra) for 12-32 mm size in retail segment and secondary producers at INR 32,000-32,300/MT for the same size.

Almost all the primary producers have increased offers by upto INR 1,000-2,000/MT in starting of the month. Low demand from the government projects, and high inventory of rebar are likely to keep prices at the same level, market participants expect.
