Imported South African Lump Offers to India Remain Firm at USD 48/MT

Offers for imported South African lump are at USD 48/MT, CFR Kandla for Feb’16 shipments and offers for ready stock deliveries are around USD 48-50/MT, CFR Kandla.

As compared to last week the offers are mostly stable. Spot iron lump premium was last assessed at USD 0.064/dry MT unit (as on 6 Jan’16).

Vessel freight continues to remain stable. Freight from South Africa to west coast of India is USD 7/MT for capesize vessels.

As per customs data tracked by SteelMint, till date there are five iron ore import vessels to India for this month. Out of this two import vessels are those of JSW Steel for import of Brazillian iron ore concentrate. Prices of concentrate (Fe 66%) are at USD 46.7/MT, CFR China.

Another iron ore import vessel named “Cmb Medoc” carrying 90,000 MT South African lump was imported by Gujarat based plants namely Varrsana Ispat, Mono Steel, Welspun and Electrotherm. As per market sources the vessel was booked towards the end of Nov’15 at around USD 46-47/MT, CFR India.

Apart from this there are two more iron ore import vessels. One of JSW carrying 59,400 MT iron ore and other of Essar Steel carrying 154,000 MT iron ore from South Africa.
