Trucks Carrying Iron Ore in Odisha

Transportation Strike in Goa Called Off; Truckers to Resume Ore Transportation

After over a month’s time transportation strike between Sesa Goa (Vedanta’s iron ore site in Goa) has been called off. The truckers are likely to resume transportation of the e-auction ore from today (8 Jan’16) onwards.

The company has agreed to pay the All Goa Truck Owners Association (AGTOA) truckers INR 11.1/MT per km to transport iron ore from its Codli mines to Amona jetty. The mining company has permission to mine 5.5 MnT pa from its mines in Goa. Out of which Codli mines contributes to 3.1 MnT pa.

However, transportation deadlock is yet to be resolved from Vedanta’s Bicholim mines to Sarmano’s jetty as the truckers are demanding rates of INR 13/MT per km.

Iron ore transportation has been crippled at Vedanta’s iron ore site in Goa since beginning of Dec’15 when some truck owners in Goa under AGTOA had created a crisis and stopped transportation.  The truckers were demanding a hike in the iron ore transportation rates from the rates that the company has offered to pay them of INR 8/MT per km.
