Quarterly iron ore imports to India have fallen from 1,041,100 MT in Q2 FY16 to 550,600 MT in Q3 FY16.
Indian iron ore imports have moved up from 256,000 MT in Nov’15 to 294,600 MT in Dec’15.
The month of Dec’15 witnessed four shipments of iron ore imports to India. All the imports made were from South Africa.
Gujarat based steel mills namely Gallant Metal, Monosteel, Welspun Steel and Varrsana Ispat jointly imported a vessel of 91,000 MT at Kandla Port. Goa based plants namely Goa Sponge & Power and Shraddha Ispat imported two vessels of 56,000 MT and 56,500 MT respectively. Apart from this, Kamachi Group imported vessel of 91,100 MT.

Quarterly iron ore imports to India down by 47% in Q3 FY16
Iron ore imports to India which stood at 1,041,100 MT in Q2 FY16 have fallen to 550,600 MT in Q3 FY16. In today’s scenario, there are only handful number of importers in India. South African lump is a preferred choice for some Gujarat based steel mills and some parties based in southern India.
