Bhubaneswar: Indian iron pellet manufacturers have welcomed the Indian government’s decision to eliminate export duty on pellets, but at the same time they have demanded more such measures to boost up the stressed industry.
“The abolition of export duty on iron ore pellets is a welcome move by the government, but it’ll not have that much impact on the pellet industry due to the mute demand in the international and domestic market and high iron ore fines prices in the country. We have demanded more safeguard measures to protect the domestic pellet industry in the upcoming budget. On the other hand, unless, the government comes up with a policy for utilization of low grade iron ore fines, the problems of the pellet industry will not be solved” said Mr. N.D.Rao, Managing Director of BRPL.
Indian pellet makers have been demanding government incentive, safeguard and abolition of excise duty and export duty on the commodity. Globally, there is a sharp drop in prices of iron ore and steel, but in India, the price of iron ore are still significantly high, making it unviable for pellets and steel industries.
