Karnataka Govt to Auction 14 Iron Ore Mines Instead of 11 in 1st Phase

On 23 Dec’15, Karnataka government has released a corrigendum regarding auction of 14 iron ore mines instead of previously notified 11 iron ore mines.

According to the notification, the Department of Mines & Geology has increased the number of mining leases to 14 for the auction. Besides, tender document fees, which was INR 5 lakh per document, has reduced to INR 2 lakh per document. Exceeding amount of INR 3 lakhs, which will be collected from the potential bidders, will be refunded back soon.

On 30 Nov’15, DMG called for bids from potential bidders, especially end users for participation in Karnataka’s 11 iron ore mines auction and grant lease for the same.

After the mining ban imposed in 2011, the Apex Court has allowed Karnataka government to auction 15 of the 51 ‘C’ category leases in Ballari and Chitradurga districts.

On 21 Dec’15, DMG cancelled the tender document published for Karnakata’s mines e-auctions without any solid reason as bidders had to clarify some doubts regarding forest clearance, environment clearance, annual output cap etc.
