While the Shah
commission has started its investigation into illegal mining in the Mining
circles of Joda and Koira, the state government has taken some measures to show
its commitment to stop illegal mining.

Director of Mines under the steel and
Mines department has sent penalty notice to as many as 27 mines owners of an aggregate
amount of Rs.57,904 crore 54 lakh for raising minerals beyond the permitted
amount thereby violating the MMDR act and MC Rules.

year. The miners can raise that particular amount of mineral after getting its
mining plan approved by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM). For raising minerals
beyond the permitted limit the miner has to get necessary permission from the union
