China Risun Group has commenced operations of its third coke oven at the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) in Central Sulawesi province, significantly enhancing its annual steel-making ingredient capacity by 0.8 mnt.
The addition of the third coke oven on 19 July 2023, followed by the commencement of the first oven on 6 November 2023, paved the way for the latest commissioning, elevating the total capacity to 2.4 mnt/annum.
Established in 2021, Risun formed a joint venture, PT Risun Wei Shan Indonesia, to initiate coking project in Indonesia. This venture features six large top-charging coke ovens, each boasting a diameter of 7.1 meters, with 66 oven chambers per oven and an annual capacity of 0.8 mnt/annum.
Anticipated to commence operation in April 2024, the fourth oven will propel the capacity to a formidable 3.2 mnt/annum.
Upon achieving full operational status, the project is poised to yield a substantial output, including 4.8 mnt of coke, 220,000 t of tar, 63,300 t of benzene, 69,600 t of ammonium sulfate, and a staggering 870 million cubic meters of coke oven gas annually. This abundant output will cater to the energy and chemical needs of industries within the park and beyond, with a keen eye on international markets such as Southeast Asia, India, Japan, South Korea, and Europe.
Furthermore, the project has secured export quotations for 2024 from the Indonesian government, underscoring its strategic positioning in the global market. Notably, in August 2023, PT Risun Wei Shan Indonesia succeeded in the first shipment of coke to Europe.
