India, one of the prime coking coal importers,reported fall in import during Nov’15. Australian Met coal contributed 78% of the total import to the nation.
Continuous falling Met coal prices failed to inch up import to India. In Nov’15, the nation imported 4.2 MnT of coking coal against 4.7 MnT in Oct’15. According to SteelMint assessment,import fell by about 10.6% M-o-M. It is be noted that the quantity, which was imported in Oct’15,is highest during FY16.
In Nov’15, JSW Steel and SAIL together accounted for receiving 50% of the total Met coal imported to India. These companies imported 1.1 MnT and 1 MnT of coking coal respectively in the month.

Country-wise coal import in Nov’15
Met coal exported from Australia dominated the Indian import. The country has exported about 3.3 MnT of coking coal in the month. However, the quantity exported from Australia fell by about 15% against 3.9 MnT in Oct’15.
