Non-coking coal import to India has registered a downfall of 5% M-o-M. India stands as the 3rd largest coal importer globally.
India, one of the prime coal importer in the world, has witnessed a fall in non-coking coal import in Nov’15. SteelMint assessed that non-coking coal import to India fell by 5% M-o-M and by about 4.8 MnT Y-o-Y.
Escalating domestic coal production in India has been providing enough to fulfill coal demand for power producers and was the main reason for distracting Indian power producers from imports. Depreciating Indian currency has prevailed as the next important reason for Indian importers to opt for indigenous material.
As per SteelMint’s stats, the country imported about 12.4 MnT of non-coking coal in Nov’15 against 13.1 MnT of the preceding month.

Leading discharging ports
Mundra and Krishnapatnam ports were the major destinations for holding non-coking coal import in the month. They received about 1.9 and 1.3 MnT of non coking coal in Nov’15 against 2.7 MnT and 2.2 MnT in Oct’15 respectively.
Leading exporters of non-coking coal in Sept’15
Indonesia and South Africa were the major exporters to India in November. Indonesia exported about 9.0 MnT of non-coking coal, registering a decline of 4.2% against the previous month. South Africa exported about 2.5 MnT non-coking coal in Nov’15 against 2.1 MnT in Oct’15.

Adani Enterprise imported about 2.2 MnT non-coking coal and was the top importer for the month.
