Pellet movement through railways drastically decreased in Nov’15 as compared to Oct’15. In Nov’15, only 38,500 MT pellets were transported through 10 rakes.
Jindal Steel & Power Ltd, a major supplier of pellets in merchant market and having pellet capacity of 9 MnT, supplied only 1 rake i.e. 3,850 MT pellets in Nov’15 against 45 rakes in Oct’15 i.e. 173,250 MT pellets. Pellet purchases from Jindal Steel & Power Ltd, dropped down as it is operating its pellet plant at 50% capacity.
Ardent Steel Ltd supplied only 23,100 MT pellets via 6 rakes in Nov’15. It had supplied 42,350 MT pellets via 11 rakes in Oct’15.
Another major supplier, BRPL, having a 4 MnT benefication plant in Odisha, had not supplied any rakes of pellets as pellet production is on hold from 2nd Nov’15.
