India’s copper semi-finish imports slump 34% m-o-m in Dec’23; Refined cathode slips 58%

India’s copper semi-finish imports saw a 34% dip in Dec’23 to 35,432 t from Nov’s 53,414 t. Despite this, there was a robust 38% y-o-y increase in CY ’23 to 0.53 mnt. Anodes led Dec imports at 23,204 t, primarily from Zambia (19,112 t), while cathodes dropped by 58% to 11,752 t, mainly from Congo (7,709 t). The decline is attributed to a Congo trucks’ strike disrupting global supply chains impacting India’s primary source of anodes and cathodes.
