Environmental Clearance to BC Mohanty’s Ferro Alloys Unit Capacity Expansion

The union ministry of Environment and forests (MoEF) has granted Environmental clearance to the capacity expansion plan of B.C.Mohanty’s fero alloys plant and the chrome ore beneficiation plant at Baliapal of Jajpur district.

The capacity of the ferro alloys plant will be increased from current 12,500 MT p.a (TPA) to 66,000 TPA by addition of 2X9 MVA and 3X5 MVA submerged Arc Furnace. On the other hand the capacity of the chrome ore beneficiation plant will be enhanced from the existing 36,000 TPA to 48,000 TPA. In order to have product flexibility keeping in view the demand supply scenario, the company will use the same plant for producing different kinds of ferro alloys like high carbon ferro chrome, ferro-manganese, ferro-silicon, silico-manganese and pig iron. The company will source raw material like chrome ore from its own mines, while others like manganese ore, coke etc will be sourced from the market.

The company had applied for Environmental clearance in April this year and had submitted the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in June.
