Indian Iron Ore Production stands at 80 MnT for Jan-July'13- Ministry

  • Indian iron ore production considerably low over mining restrictions in Goa and Karnataka
  • Imports of iron ore unlikely  to increase significantly

Indian iron ore production for a period of Jan-July 2013 stands at around 80 million tonnes, according to the provision data released by Indian Ministry of Mines. Iron ore production in India has been falling consistently since last few years over mining ban in Karnataka and Goa.

India produced around 143 million tonnes of iron ore in FY'13 according to ministry of mines out of which 18 million tonnes had been exported.

Experts ruled out significant increase in imports of iron ore or pellets, primarily due to falling Rupee against USD and secondly due to increasing availability of pellets for merchant sales.
