Paradip Port, one of the largest coal handling ports at East Coast, registered the highest record of Thermal coal handling, which rose 8.71% in H1 FY16.
Paradip Port Trust handled the highest ever recorded traffic of 36.06 MnT during Apr-Sept’15, which was 34.35 MnT during Apr-Sept’14. This is an increase of 5% over the total traffic handled during the corresponding period of previous year and holds the 2nd position among the major ports of India.
Thermal coal handling increased by 8.71% to 14.83 MnT against 13.64 MnT handled during the same period of previous year.

Although, about 771 vessels handled on port in H1 FY16 with an increase of 11.41% against 692 vessels handled during the previous year.
Incidentally, with the support of East Coast Railway, the mass departure of imported cargo from the port has improved substantially. This is because the port has been in a position to liquidate 312 nos. of pending indents, which stood at 595 at the beginning of 2015.
The above achievement of Paradip Port is impressive, considering the fact that port had to suffer few unprecedented spells of work stoppages.
