A Pig Iron manufacturing plant in Odisha has stopped operating its blast furnace from last eight months and has no plans of restarting it for next four months.
The unavailability of iron ore is the ultimate reason for not being able to produce steel & foundry grade Pig Iron.
According to the company's Senior General Manager (GM) for Raw Materials & Logistics, “It is not feasible for every producer to purchase iron ore at high prices in e-auctions and that they are waiting for government to modify norms”.
Hence, Pig Iron supply has been squeezed and induction and arc furnace operators have no choice left but to use substitutes.
