Odisha Government to Review Proposals of Increase in Chrome Ore Production

Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) under the Ministry of Environment and Forest, GOI is to consider several proposals including OMC, Balasore Alloys and Mishrilal Jain for increase in chrome ore production on 22-24 Sept’15.

A meeting of the reconstituted Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest is to be convened on 22-24  Sept’15 under the chairmanship of Mr. MS Nagar. The EAC meeting meant exclusively for the non-coal mining sector, is scheduled to consider/ reconsider several proposals for grant of environmental clearance/ ToR.

The EAC will take up several proposals from Odisha including the proposals of Ballasore Alloys, OMC and Mishrilal Chrome mines.

Ballasore Alloys has applied for obtaining Terms of Reference (ToR) for conducing Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study for enhancement of production from 0.6 MnT pa to 1.692 MnT pa with open cast and underground mechanized mining method at its Kaliapani Chromite mines. The proposal will be considered by the EAC on 24 Sept’15.

The Odisha government owned miner, OMC has applied for amendment in Environment Clearance for relocation of the tailing pond within the lease area of the South Kaliapani Chromite mines. The proposal will be considered on 23 Sept’15.

Meanwhile, the EAC will also consider the application of Mishrilal Jain mines for reconsideration of environmental clearance for enhancement of production of Sarubali Chromite mines from 0.136 MnT pa to 0.35 MnT pa along with a beneficiation plant.
