Iron Ore of 42 million metric tonnes lying in Orissa closed mines.

Updated: In the state of Odisha, a total of around 42 million metric tons (approx) of Iron ore is available to get the mining permission to sale, said a reliable source. The share of Rungta, OMC and KJS is about 7-8 million metric tons each in the above.

Whereas, the share of Essel, KMC and R P Sao is about 2-3 million metric tons. The rest of 9 million metric tons mined Iron ore is available with other miners. This material is pilled up after Shah commission announced closer of mining activity. 

Some miners also believe that they will soon be able to get DDM permission to lift 50% of the material lying in mines. If its approval granted we might not see the scarcity in domestic market, they added.

Odisha contributes 60% of the total iron ore production in India. Experts believe that after the e-auctions (which is to be begin from April-2013), the scarcity of iron ore is expected to continue in Odisha as production will fall to 30% due to restriction imposed.
